Switching on/off

1. Connect the machine to the mains power supply

2. To start the machine, depress the Lock-Off Button (5), and squeeze the On/

Off Trigger Switch (7); the motor will start and take a few moments to reach

full operating speed

WARNING: Never switch on the tool when it is in contact with the workpiece – this

can cause serious injury to the operator.

3. To stop the machine, release the on/off trigger switch

WARNING: Always wait until the machine has come to a standstill before putting

it down.

Sanding

1. Attach a sanding disc with the required grit to the Hook and Loop Backing

Pad (8)

Note: Always start with a coarse grit paper, and work through progressively ﬁner

grit papers until the desired ﬁnish is achieved

2. Hold the machine securely, using both hands, by the handles provided

3. Turn the tool on, wait until it has reached the desired speed, and then apply it

to the workpiece

WARNING: Never switch on the tool when it is in contact with the workpiece, it may

cause serious injury to the operator.

Note: In general, keep the tool at an angle of about 10 to 15° to the workpiece

surface.

4. Only apply moderate pressure to the sander

WARNING: Pressing too hard onto the workpiece may damage the tool or the

workpiece and will cause premature wear of the sanding disc.

5. Sand evenly over the workpiece surface; because the machine works in a

rotary motion it is not necessary to work with the grain

Polishing

1. Attach a clean Hook and Loop Lambswool Polishing Bonnet (9) to the Hook

and Loop Backing Pad (8)

2. Hold the machine securely, using both hands, by the handles provided

3. Turn the tool on, wait until it has reached the desired speed, and then apply it

to the workpiece

Note: In general, keep the tool at an angle of about 10 to 15° to the workpiece

surface.

4. Work across the surface using a wide sweeping motion; apply slight pressure

only

WARNING: Excess pressure will cause premature wear of the polishing bonnet and

result in a poor surface ﬁnish.

5. Continue until you have reached the desired surface ﬁnish and until all visible

polishing compound, if used, has been removed.

Other polishing tasks:

• Other compatible polishing sponges with M14 threads or hook and loop

surfaces are available from your Silverline stockist

• Sponges can be used for the application of polishing compounds

• Always use a polishing compound that is compatible with the workpiece

material, application method and desired surface ﬁnish

• Adhere to the compound manufacturer’s instructions

Note: Always test the effect of the polishing compound on an inconspicuous part

of the workpiece.

Maintenance

WARNING: Always disconnect from the power supply before carrying out any

maintenance/cleaning.

Cleaning

• Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear

quickly, and shorten the machine’s service life. Clean the body of your machine

with a soft brush, or dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to

blow through the ventilation holes

WARNING: Take extra care to clean the machine thoroughly, if used for both wood

and metal. Sparks from metal work can easily ignite wood dust!

Hook and loop surfaces

• Hook and loop surfaces need to be clean, free of dirt and foreign matter like

hair, ﬁbres, sand etc.

• In order to provide adequate adhesion to secure fast rotating accessories, hook

and loop surfaces must be in good condition

• When used extensively, hooks and loops will become elongated or broken, and

the mechanism cannot provide the required strength of adhesion anymore

WARNING: The tool must not be used when hook and loop surfaces are worn out,

and parts must be replaced prior to further use.

• Replacement hook and loop backing pads and accessories are available from

your Silverline stockist.

Replacement brushes

• Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn

• Excessively worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure, or

visible sparking

• To replace the brushes, remove the Easy Brush Access Plugs (11) from both

sides of the machine. Remove the worn brushes and replaced with new.

Replace brush access plugs. Alternatively, have the machine serviced at an

authorised service centre

Note: This tool is supplied with one set of spare carbon brushes. Additional spare

brushes are available from your Silverline stockist.

Storage

• Store this tool carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children

Disposal

Always adhere to national regulations when disposing of power tools that are no

longer functional and are not viable for repair.

• Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic

equipment (WEEE), with household waste

• Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct way

to dispose of power tools
